Paramedic Program Eligibility Requirements

  1. Official, Sealed High School Transcripts with graduation date posted, GED report, or equivalent; OR college transcripts with Associate Degree or higher.
  2. Official, Sealed College Transcripts for prerequisite coursework completed with a grade of "C" or better; OR Letter of Good Standing for coursework in progress.
  3. Current California EMT certification
  4. EMT Work Experience Form or approved equivalency:
  • 6 months full-time Emergency Medical Technician experience with an Emergency Medical Service provider. OR
  • 1,000 hours of part-time and/or volunteer Emergency Medical Technician experience with an Emergency Medical Service provider. OR
  • Equivalency applicants must submit both the Personal Statement and Work Experience Equivalency Form. See application instruction packet for detailed directions and required forms.   • Note: Only hours within the past 24 months will be counted towards EMT work verification hours. Fire Academy does not meet this criterion

*Higher level courses may be used in lieu of the listed prerequisite courses. For example: BIO 205 (Human Anatomy) or BIO 206 (Human Physiology), ENG 201A (English Composition), and/or Math at a level higher than Elementary Algebra, such as Intermediate Algebra, Pre-Calculus and above.

Steps for Future Applicants

  1. Apply for Student Admission to Cuesta College.
  2. Submit official, sealed transcripts, from all high schools, and coursework completed  at colleges other than Cuesta, to the Cuesta College Admissions and Records office.
  3. Contact a Cuesta College counselor for questions about application requirements, program prerequisites, and/or course equivalencies.
  4. Check this webpage weekly for information and dates pertaining to the next Paramedic Program application cycle.
