Don Suggs_SpriteCuesta College’s Harold J Miossi Art Gallery is set to present Arguing the Landscape, an exhibition of paintings and photographs by renowned artist Don Suggs. The exhibit runs from August 19 through September 16, with an opening reception on August 19 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Suggs will discuss his work during an Artist Talk at 5:30 p.m.

The artworks featured in Arguing the Landscape were created by Suggs over a 30-year period and include compound photographs, prints and paintings from multiple bodies of work with multiple commonalities. According to Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery Coordinator Emma Saperstein, “the works alter, redefine, rearrange or modify our perceptions and interpretations of landscape."

Suggs was born in Fort Worth, TX, and grew up in San Diego, CA. He received a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied art, film and psychology, and then remained at the university, earning both an MA in 1971 and MFA in 1972. Suggs received two National Endowment for the Arts Grants, in 1973 and 1991. In 2007, a 38-year survey of Suggs’ paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures was presented at the Ben Maltz Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles.

The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery is located in room 7170, on the San Luis Obispo campus of Cuesta College. It is open Monday-Friday, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and the 1st and 3rd Sundays from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, please call (805) 546-3202.
